- Last year's hopeful report of transition to peace changed by fresh outbreak of hostilities 100 miles from the Mission Station.
- Southern tribes visited the loyal natives of this locality, and welcomed. But on return South two settlers were murdered leading to the fresh hostilities.
- While here they put us of our guard and "diffused their Hauhau fanaticism and disloyal notions among the friendly natives” and unsettling them.
- Friendly natives from the Chathams recently settled 20 miles north of the Station. The younger members had fathers and elders who had sought refuge in the Chathams after being driven out by the native wars. By Government arrangement, they have now returned to their former homes, or the homes of their fathers.
- While in the Chathams they had been ministered to by Native Assistant Missionary Hetaraka Warihi, formerly of Kawhia, and educated at Auckland and the Grey Institute, with instruction by "brothers Buddle and Reid."TagsAnnual ReportConferenceBox No.162Item No.Folder 3
